- Scarlet macaws are intelligent and energetic birds, requiring lots of daily socialization and exercise.
- The plumage is mostly scarlet, but the rump and tail-covert feathers are light blues, the greater upper wing coverts are yellow, the upper sides of the flight feathers of the wings are dark blue as are the ends of the tail feathers, and the undersides of the wing and tail flight feathers are dark red with metallic gold iridescence.
- Like all birds, the scarlet macaw will thrive in a large environment and will suffer in a cage that’s inadequate for its size.

- A small breeding population descended from introduced birds is found in Puerto Rico, and another has inhabited Miami-Dade County, Florida, since the mid-1980s.
- They have strong personalities and are happiest in homes with experienced parrot owners who can give them ample out-of-cage playtime.
- Much of their population decline in the wild has been due to habitat destruction, hunting, and trapping. Sadly, before captive breeding programs, these young birds were quite often taken directly from the nest and sold for the pet trade.
4. Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo

- With a long lifespan of around 80 years, the sulfur-crested cockatoo comes in two sizes.

- They are also a familiar sight in urban areas. In some parts of Australia, this bird is so plentiful that people consider it a nuisance.
- The bill is black, the legs are grey, and the eye-ring is whitish. Males typically have almost black eyes, whereas the females have a more red or brown eye, but this requires optimum viewing conditions to be seen.
5. Eclectus

- The striking Eclectus is a large parrot that offers multiple options.
- It is unusual in the parrot family for its extreme sexual dimorphism of the colors of the plumage; the male having a mostly bright emerald green plumage and the female a mostly bright red and purple/blue plumage.
- It has blue primaries, and red flanks and underwing coverts. Its tail is edged with a narrow band of creamy yellow and is dark grey edged with creamy yellow underneath, and the tail feathers are green centrally and bluer as they get towards the edges.
