Sojat goat breed originated in Sojat tehsil of Pali district of Rajasthan, India.
The breed is mostly found among the belts of Sojat, Phalodi, Pipar, Jodhpur and some other regions of Rajasthan.
Sojat goat is a cross breed of Jamunapari Hyderabadi goats.
The goat breed became the first choice for commercial goat rearing because of its appearance or pure white colour, it attains great weight and is suitable for commercial or stall-feed goat rearing system.
Generally in India Sojat has the ability to adapt to any type of environment, it can achieve good height and weight in any environment.
Because it looks nice, pure white or pink color, it gives milk production quite good, better adaptability, much demand in festivals, good production efficiency.
It is a fast growing breed, the weight of Sojat goat breed increases from 100 to 110 grams per day at the age of 0 to 3 months with normal fodder or semi-intensive goat rearing method.
Or it achieves a body weight of 130 grams per day at 3 to 12 months of age.
This is semi-intensive weight gain where they graze for 2 to 3 hours. This can lead to more weight gain in intensive management or stall feeding farming systems.
This goat breed is known for its quick weight gain, usually the weight of this goat breed depends on multiple births of babies.
But in normal condition, 3 kg birth weight is given for having a baby and about 4 to 4.5 kg birth weight if single child is found.
Sojat goat is mainly reared for meat production.
Its milk yield is low.
