Rottweiler
A powerful, calm guardian — devoted to its family and naturally wary of strangers.
How to spot it
A big, muscular dog 56–69 cm tall and 35–60 kg, black with clearly defined rust-brown markings on the face, chest and legs. It has a broad head and a confident, unhurried presence.
Temperament
Calm, confident and courageous, deeply loyal to its own people and aloof with outsiders — a natural protector. A well-bred, well-socialised Rottweiler is steady and good-natured, and needs an owner who leads kindly but firmly.
Exercise & training
Strong and intelligent, it needs daily exercise and consistent, positive training from puppyhood. Early socialisation is essential given its size and guarding instinct.
Grooming & care
The short double coat is easy to care for and sheds moderately; brush weekly. Provide shade and water in the heat.
Health & lifespan
Around 8–10 years. Watch for hip and elbow dysplasia, heart conditions and, as a deep-chested breed, bloat; keep it lean and buy from health-screened lines.
