Boxer
A playful, energetic guardian with a big heart — devoted to family and endlessly bouncy.
How to spot it
A muscular, square-built dog 53–63 cm tall and 25–32 kg, with a short muzzle, an undershot jaw and a short shiny coat in fawn or brindle, often with white markings. The expression is alert and quizzical.
Temperament
Bright, playful and famously patient and affectionate with children, staying puppyish for years. It is loyal and protective, making a good family guardian, and bonds very closely with its people.
Exercise & training
High-energy and needs a lot of daily exercise and play, or it becomes boisterous. Intelligent but exuberant, it trains best with patient, upbeat, consistent methods.
Grooming & care
The short coat is very easy — a weekly brush. As a flat-faced breed it tolerates heat and cold poorly, so keep it cool in summer and warm in winter.
Health & lifespan
Around 10–12 years. The breed has higher rates of certain heart conditions and cancers; buy from breeders who health-test, and keep the dog fit.
