Turkish Angora
An old, graceful longhair from Turkey — a silky single coat, plumed tail and a lively, affectionate streak.
How to spot it
A slender, elegant cat 3–5 kg with a fine single coat (no woolly undercoat) that lies close and flows into a plumed tail, large pointed ears and almond eyes. Classic Angoras are pure white, sometimes with odd-coloured eyes, but many colours exist.
Personality
Lively, intelligent and affectionate — playful and athletic well into adulthood, it bonds closely with its family and likes to be involved in everything. More active and outgoing than most longhairs.
Grooming & coat care
The silky single coat has no dense undercoat, so it rarely mats and needs only a brush once or twice a week.
Health & lifespan
Usually 12–16 years. White, blue-eyed cats can be deaf (a heritable trait), and the breed carries some HCM and, rarely, a neurological (ataxia) risk; buy from a breeder who is open about this.
Living with one in India
Because it lacks a heavy undercoat, the Angora handles warmth better than a Persian and grooms easily — a genuine plus in India — but it is an active, sociable indoor cat that needs play and height, not solitude.
