Ragdoll
A big, placid, blue-eyed cat that famously goes limp and relaxed when you pick it up.
How to spot it
A large, heavy cat — males 5.5–9 kg — with a soft semi-long coat, striking blue eyes and colour-pointed markings (seal, blue and more), often with white mitts or a blaze. It grows slowly, reaching full size at three to four years.
Personality
Exceptionally gentle, docile and affectionate — it goes floppy when lifted (the name says it all), follows its people from room to room and rarely uses its claws. A quiet, undemanding companion.
Grooming & coat care
The coat has little undercoat, so it mats less than a Persian's, but still needs combing two or three times a week to stay silky, more during a seasonal moult.
Health & lifespan
Usually 12–15 years. The breed carries a risk of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) — responsible breeders DNA-test — and, being trusting and non-defensive, it should be kept safely indoors.
Living with one in India
The long coat and calm, heat-sensitive nature mean a Ragdoll needs a cool indoor home in Indian summers, with regular combing through humid months. Its trusting temperament makes free-roaming outdoors genuinely unsafe.
