The "lazy man's Persian" — a Persian's sweet round face and calm nature in an easy-care short coat.
How to spot it
Built exactly like a Persian — cobby body, broad flat face, big round eyes — 3–6 kg, but with a short, dense, plush coat instead of a long one, in the full range of Persian colours. The plush coat stands off the body like soft velvet.
Personality
Calm, sweet and affectionate like a Persian, but a little more playful and lively. An undemanding, gentle companion that enjoys a quiet lap and a peaceful home.
Grooming & coat care
Far easier than a Persian: the short plush coat needs only a brush two or three times a week, though the flat face still needs its eyes wiped daily.
Health & lifespan
Around 12–15 years. It shares the Persian's flat-faced breathing and dental issues and the risk of polycystic kidney disease (PKD); buy from a breeder who DNA-tests.
Living with one in India
The short coat makes an Exotic much easier to keep comfortable in Indian heat than a Persian, but the flat face still limits its cooling, so keep it indoors and cool in summer and wipe the eyes daily.
