Devon Rex
A pixie-faced imp with big ears and soft, wavy fur — mischievous, playful and endlessly affectionate.
How to spot it
A small, slight cat 2.5–4.5 kg with an elfin face, enormous low-set ears, big eyes and a short, soft, wavy "rexed" coat that can look sparse. The whiskers are short and crinkled; the whole look is famously pixie- or alien-like.
Personality
Playful, mischievous and highly people-oriented — it perches on shoulders, seeks out warmth and stays kitten-like and clownish for life. One of the most companionable and interactive breeds.
Grooming & coat care
The fine wavy coat is delicate — brushing can damage it, so a gentle stroke or occasional light wipe is enough; it needs little coat care but regular ear cleaning.
Health & lifespan
Usually 12–16 years. Watch for a heart condition (HCM) and a hereditary muscle weakness (spasticity/myopathy) in some lines; buy from a breeder who screens.
Living with one in India
The thin, sparse coat means a Devon Rex both chills easily in air-conditioning and sunburns in direct sun, so it seeks warmth and needs shade — an indoor cat that should never be left in the sun. Its constant need for company matters more than the climate.
