Siamese
The talkative, striking cat of Thailand — a sleek body, blue eyes and dark "points" on the face, ears, paws and tail.
How to spot it
A slender, elegant cat 3–5 kg with a long fine-boned body, a wedge-shaped head, large ears and vivid blue almond eyes. The short coat is pale with darker "points" — seal, chocolate, blue or lilac — on the face, ears, legs and tail.
Personality
Extremely social, intelligent and vocal — a Siamese "talks" constantly in a loud, distinctive voice and demands company and attention. It bonds intensely with its people and dislikes being left alone.
Grooming & coat care
Easy: the fine short coat needs no more than an occasional weekly brush or a rub with a damp cloth.
Health & lifespan
Often 12–15 years or more. Watch for dental problems, some eye conditions (the breed once commonly had crossed eyes) and a sensitivity to anaesthetics; generally a hardy, long-lived cat.
Living with one in India
The short coat and lean build cope with warmth better than most, which suits Indian homes — but it is an indoor, people-loving cat that needs company and stimulation, not a garden it is left in, and it can feel cold in strong air-conditioning.
