Urgent: My goat has bloat — what to do? 🐐🚨

Emergency help needed! My goat (2 year old Sirohi breed) has severe bloat since this morning.

Symptoms:

 • Left side of belly is swollen and tight like a drum
 • She is kicking at her belly repeatedly
 • Breathing is fast and shallow
 • Not eating or drinking
 • Lying down and getting up repeatedly (sign of pain)

What happened: Yesterday evening she got into the feed storage and ate a lot of crushed wheat. I didn't realize until this morning when I saw the symptoms.

The nearest vet is 25 km away and won't be available until tomorrow. What can I do RIGHT NOW to help her? Please suggest any home remedies or first aid!

Update: I have given her 30ml of cooking oil orally as suggested by a neighbor. What else can I do?

🚨 EMERGENCY RESPONSE: 1. DO NOT make her lie down. Keep her standing and walk her slowly for 15-20 minutes. Movement helps release gas. 2. Massage the bloated area (left flank) gently in circular motions for 10 minutes. This stimulates rumen movement. 3. Give 50ml of any vegetable oil (mustard/coconut/sunflower) orally. You already did this — good! 4. Mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder + pinch of hing (asafoetida) in 100ml warm water and drench her. This is a powerful anti-gas remedy. 5. If you have Eno or any antacid, mix 1 sachet in 100ml water and give orally. 6. CRITICAL: If the bloat is severe and she is struggling to breathe, and you have experience — you may need to do emergency trocarization. But ONLY if you know how. Otherwise, arrange transport to vet immediately. DO NOT give: Any more grain or dry feed for next 24 hours. Only small amounts of water. Monitor for next 2 hours. If no improvement, transport to vet even if it's far. Bloat can kill within hours.

Bhai, same thing happened with my goat last year. The oil + walking trick worked. Also try giving 10-15 ml of ginger juice mixed with water. Ginger is a natural carminative — helps expel gas. My goat recovered in 3-4 hours. Stay calm and keep walking her. Praying for her recovery! 🙏

In our village, we use ajwain (carom seeds) + black salt for bloat. Roast 1 teaspoon ajwain lightly, crush it, mix with a pinch of black salt and 50ml water. Give orally. It's very effective for gas. Also, keep the goat's front legs elevated (on a slight slope/incline) — this helps gas escape naturally. Allah bless your goat! 🤲
