My cow is not eating properly — any tips?

Namaste everyone! 🙏

I have a 4-year-old Gir cow at my farm in Gujarat. For the past 3-4 days, she has been eating very little. She used to eat 15-20 kg of green fodder daily, but now she barely touches 5-6 kg.

I've checked:

No fever (temperature is normal at 101.2°F)
No visible wounds or injuries
She is drinking water normally
Rumination has reduced significantly

I've been giving her ajwain and hing water as suggested by a local vet, but no improvement yet. Has anyone faced a similar issue? What worked for you?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

Bhai, I faced the same issue last monsoon with my Sahiwal cow. Try giving her wheat bran mixed with jaggery and warm water. It worked wonders for my cow within 2 days. Also check if there is any change in the fodder quality — sometimes moldy or wet fodder can cause this. Keep us updated! 🙏

Adding to what Rajesh bhai said — also check for acidosis. If you recently changed her feed or gave too much grain, it can cause rumen acidosis. Symptoms match what you described. Give her sodium bicarbonate (meetha soda) — 50g mixed in water twice a day. And make sure she has access to a salt lick.

I am a veterinary doctor from Punjab. Based on your description, it could be simple indigestion or early stage of impaction. I suggest: 1. Stop grain feed for 2 days 2. Give only good quality dry fodder 3. Administer liquid paraffin (250ml) orally 4. Gentle walk for 15-20 minutes twice a day If no improvement in 48 hours, please call a local vet for a proper checkup. Don't delay!

Same problem mere saath bhi hua tha. Mera cow ne 1 week tak khana nahi khaya. Maine neem leaves + karela juice diya — 3 din mein farak dikha. Try karo bhai, natural hai, koi side effect nahi.
