Which is better: Artificial Insemination or Natural Breeding?

I need advice from experienced farmers on this topic. 🙏

I have 6 cows and I'm confused about whether to go for Artificial Insemination (AI) or Natural Breeding with a good quality bull.

My concerns with AI:

Success rate in my area is only 40-50% (as per local vet)
Sometimes need 3-4 attempts = 3-4 heat cycles wasted = 3-4 months of no milk
AI technician availability is unreliable in my village

My concerns with Natural Breeding:

Good quality bull is expensive to maintain
Risk of disease transmission
Limited genetic options compared to AI

What has been your experience? Which method gives better results in terms of calf quality and milk production in the next generation?

Use only reputed semen stations (BAIF, NDDB, Sabarmati) 2. Insist on double insemination (12 hours apart) for better success 3. Give mineral mixture + bypass fat for 15 days before AI to improve conception 4. Track heat cycles properly using a simple calendar With these practices, I've seen success rates of 70-80% in village conditions.

We use both methods on our farm of 30 cows. For high-producing cows (15L+), we use AI with sex-sorted semen to ensure female calves. For average cows, we use our own Sahiwal bull. This hybrid approach works best for us. One important tip: If using AI, give the cow 2 ml GnRH injection (Receptal/Ovurelin) at the time of insemination. It improves conception rate by 15-20%. Costs only ₹150 but worth every rupee!

Bhai, simple baat bataata hoon. AI is better IF you have a good technician nearby. Mere gaon mein AI technician mahine mein 2-3 baar hi aata hai, aur heat detection miss ho jaati hai. So I bought a good Murrah bull (₹60,000) and now breeding is never delayed. Bull maintenance costs me ₹3000/month but I also charge ₹500 per service from other farmers, so it pays for itself. Depends on your location and technician availability.
